Come On Out to Pittsburgh’s 5th Annual VegFest

One of our favorite things about living at the Cork Factory apartments in downtown Pittsburgh, PA, is all of the fun and exciting events just minutes away, especially in the summertime. In just a few weeks, Pittsburgh residents will be celebrating the 5th annual VegFest, a day of delicious food, exciting local vendors, appreciation for animals, and love for the vegan lifestyle. No matter your diet, VegFest is an awesome way to learn a little bit more about plant-based eating, animal welfare, and healthy local dining options.

The event will take place at Allegheny Commons Park and will kick off festivities at 11 a.m. with tons of local food, adoptable animals, guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, entertainment, and vendors promoting cruelty-free, and sustainable products. Over the past four years, word of VegFest has spread rapidly throughout town, boosting attendance to roughly 10,000 guests, and earning the honor of Best Food Festival in Pittsburgh not one but two years in a row.

The event is put on by founders of the local non-profit Justice for Animals, Leila and Natalie who aim to help spread the word in Pittsburgh about plant-based living and animal rights in an approachable, family-fun manner that everyone can get behind. The event features fun activities for kids, live music, and wellness demonstrations that work to bring the community together around this important cause.

At this year’s VegFest you can expect to sample delectable bites from over 30 food vendors, including but certainly not limited to Rooted Ice Cream, Onion Maiden, Notcho Nocheez, and Olive & Marlow. After sampling the local fare, show your support for small businesses in the area like Our Fellow Creatures, Yogi Reads, Soul Home Sanctuary, and Black Walnut Woodworking among many others. You can even bring home your very own pet from animal-welfare focused non-profits like the Great Pyrenees Club of Western Pennsylvania Rescue, or Frankie’s Friends Cat Rescue, both working to help animals in need in the Pittsburgh area.

Gather your friends, coworkers, kids, and pets and mark your calendars for this vibrant yearly event. The event is totally free and open to the public, but be sure to bring some extra coin to support a wide range of awesome local businesses. If you want to join in on the fun, you can also register for the Happy Vegan One Mile Pet Walk, which takes place the morning of the event and helps to support Justice for Animals’ larger mission.
