Spring Into the Season at This Year’s Maifest!

Spring Into the Season at This Year’s Maifest!

As a resident of the Pittsburgh area, you’re going to want to mark your calendars for Maifest. After their 150th anniversary last year, the German cultural group Teutonia Mannerchor plans to throw yet another epic weekend event in celebration of springtime. On May 3rd through the 4th, you’ll be able to find beer flowing, traditional food passed, and live music playing under a giant tent in the North Side.

If you’re planning to attend the event, you can expect delicious German fare like schnitzel, bratwurst, and strudel as well as an abundance of cold beer and a lively atmosphere. Starting at 5:00 PM on the 3rd, tents will open and the parade of flags ceremony will begin. After that, enjoy live music by Madel Jager until 11:00 PM when the night winds down. On Saturday, expect a similar schedule, with events beginning at noon and continuing through the night with live musical performances by Aaron Dussing and Polka Revolution.

The event is open to the public for just five dollars at the door which includes a traditional beer mug for those over the age of 21. Guests under the age of 18 are welcome, and can attend free of charge. Be sure to bring some cash so you can indulge in German favorites for an authentic cultural experience. Tours of the club will also be offered to the public at specific intervals throughout the weekend, so be sure to be on the lookout for those -- we hear the space is breathtaking!

If you plan to attend the event, the hosts recommend carpooling, as space is limited. You can find parking on both sides of Phineas Street, in addition to Peralta and Suismon Streets. Any additional information about the event can be found here.

Maifest is a wonderful opportunity to usher in spring, connect with neighbors, and enjoy the diversity that makes Pittsburgh such a special place to live. Get a crew of friends together and make a plan to check out this awesome event in just a few weeks!
