As summer comes to a close and crisp fall days begin to roll into Pittsburgh, we have a chance to slow down, catch our breath, and remind ourselves about what’s really important to us. With wedding season beginning, followed by Thanksgiving and the holidays, fall is a time for family, and no one understands that more than local Pittsburgh photographer Helene Stype. Helene’s work encapsulates the importance of family, motherhood, human connections, and the gift of life itself, which is why we’ve chosen to feature her in this week’s blog.
Helene is originally from Paris, and before she moved to northern Pittsburgh, she lived in three different countries, giving her a unique lens from which she views the world and creates photography. She began taking photos in 2010 and attended the professional photography training program at the London School of Photography. Her focus is on families and newborns, and she works exclusively with natural light, capturing precious moments in black and white. Her photography is never staged or posed, and she chooses to shoot photos in the families’ homes, where she believes they feel the most authentically themselves. She believes in capturing moments in time as an important way to document life’s precious memories and the bonds that hold families together.
Helene works closely with her clients and makes every effort to accommodate all of their needs. Her sessions typically last two hours, allowing for the natural breaks a little one requires. Prior to the shoot, Helene provides her clients with a Session Guide, breaking down exactly what to expect and how to best prepare. She also works to answer any questions the family may have and does her best to accommodate any special needs or wishes.
